A thorny bush is a kind of garden where plants, shrubs, and bushes are overgrown and extremely untended. In worst cases, they are filled with deadly twigs and all sorts of mini branches from plants and trees that have been abandoned. Such was the case of this newborn baby girl who was found in a thorny bush in India.

According to a report by Daily Mail, she was discovered by the authorities under a bush and covered in several scratches. The place was in the city of Una in western India’s Gujurat state. They believed that it is the latest incident of baby girls being rejected by their parents in India.

The source noted that a passerby heard the baby girl’s cries somewhere within the thorny bush. They said:

“The little girl was found lying on the ground at the foot of the bush, bleeding from several places where the thorns had pierced her tender skin.”

The passerby called the authorities and an ambulance quickly came to the baby girl’s rescue. The doctors who saw her condition said that she might have lost her life if she had not been found by the passerby. They carefully pulled out the thorns that were stuck on her skin and washed her.

Fortunately, she was described as “stable” and recovering after. Meanwhile, the police are on the lookout for the baby girl’s parents who may have intentionally abandoned her in the thorny bush. In many poor places in India, having a baby girl is considered a curse. This is because they fear that they will have to pay expensive dowries to the girl’s future husband should they get married. Boys, on the other hand, are expected to take care of their parents once the latter reaches old age.

According to the report:

“The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) estimates up to 50 million girls and women are missing in India’s population as a result of infanticide and sex selective abortions.”
