According to news reports, Domingo was fixing a DVD player inside their shanty located along Mahogany Street, Brgy. Sto. Nino. On early Sunday morning, he heard a knock on their home’s plywood window. After asking who was knocking, Domingo was fired upon. The gunman supposedly knew where to shoot based on the location where Domingo’s voice was coming from.
The first shot hit Domingo’s 5-year-old son, Francis, who was sleeping on the floor with his siblings and mother. Francis was hit on the forehead, leading to his immediate death. The gunman fired again, this time hitting Domingo in the nape. The bullet exited through his cheek, killing the target. According to witnesses, the gunman was wearing a jacket, a bonnet, and a cap. The unidentified assailant fled on foot through the narrow streets.
Elizabeth Navarro, Domingo’s live-in partner, wished that he had never surrendered. “It’s as if they’re targeting those who did,” she said as translated by the Inquirer. She also lamented the lack of rehabilitation program for those who surrendered and admitted to drug use. “He was also a victim of drugs. They should be focusing on those who manufacture and sell illegal drugs,” she added.
Domingo reportedly used shabu to keep himself awake and work longer hours as a driver.Elizabeth is due to give birth to their fifth child this month. With Domingo gone, the family has no means to pay for the funeral expenses amounting to P45,000. Helpless, the slain’s kin are reportedly not seeking justice for Domingo and Francis. “It’s useless, it would not bring back my son’s life,” Elzabeth told The Philippine Star.
Southern Police District director Chief Superintendent Tomas Apolinario promised to look into the killing of the Manoscas. The cops will review any CCTV footage in the area for possible leads on the killer. Netizens were visibly concerned with rising body count, particularly involving minors, in the Duterte regime’s bloody war on drugs.
